Aslam Hassan

Aslam Hassan (IRS - 2005) is currently serving as the Commissioner of Customs in Mumbai. A distinguished poet and literary figure, he holds a B.A. (Hons) in History from Aligarh Muslim University and an M.A. in Rural Studies from Patna University. His poetry has been widely published in prestigious magazines and newspapers, earning recognition from institutions such as Sahitya Akademi (New Delhi), LBS National Academy of Administration, SRM University (Chennai), and Punjabi University (Patiala). He is the founder of BaZm-e-Hassan and has compiled Dariche Ki Dhoop, a collection of poetry by his father, the noted Urdu poet Zubairul Haasan Ghafil. 

Actively engaged in the literary world, he has participated in renowned festivals, including Pasban-e-Adab (Mumbai), Deccan Lit Fest (Pune), and Patna Lit Fest. In 2015, the acclaimed Hindi literary magazine Mantavya (मंतव्य) dedicated a special issue to his poetic contributions. He was also invited by Sahitya Akademi, Delhi, to recite his poetry at the prestigious Festival of Letters. His literary excellence has been recognized with accolades such as the Kavita Shree Samman from SRM University (2017) and the Premchand Samman (2024). Many of his poems have been adapted for theatrical performances by well-known theater groups.

Beyond literature, his contributions to the cultural domain include writing the GST Anthem, sung by Zubin Nautiyal and Amruta Fadnavis, which has been adopted as the official anthem of the GST Department across India. He also penned Azadi Ka Amrit Geet, a patriotic song sung by Udit Narayan and officially released by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, on August 15, 2023.
