Pratap Somvanshi

Pratap Somvanshi, the celebrated Indian poet, lyricist, and writer, was born on December 20, 1968, in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. Holding an M.A. in Hindi literature from Kanpur University, he not only excels in literature but also serves as the Managing Editor of Hindustan Hindi daily newspaper. Renowned for his profound poetry, he earned prestigious honors like the Panos South Asia Media Fellowship in 1999 and the KC Kulish International Merit Award in 2017. Notable works include “Itwar Chota Par Gaya” and a play about Kabeer’s wife, “Loli.” His influence extends to cinema, having penned a qawwali for the film “Azamgarh,” sung by the Nizami brothers. Pratap Somvanshi’s literary impact reaches into school textbooks for non-formal education in Uttar Pradesh, showcasing his enduring contribution to poetry and literature.
