Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra

Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra arrived in Dublin on October 6, 2021, as India's Ambassador to Ireland. A distinguished career diplomat from the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), he brings over three decades of experience across the full spectrum of Indian diplomacy, covering political, security, and geo-strategic affairs; economic and commercial engagements; investment and technology collaborations; education, research, and innovation; cultural diplomacy and soft power initiatives; diaspora relations; and India’s global development partnerships.

Before his posting in Dublin, Ambassador Mishra served in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi, as Officer on Special Duty (Political) from July to October 2021, and as Head of the Development Partnership Administration from February 2020 to July 2021, overseeing India's official development assistance programs and international development dialogues. Prior to that, he was Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) from February 2019 to February 2020, strengthening India's global cultural footprint. He has previously held leadership roles as Ambassador of India to the Maldives (2016-19), Consul General of India in Toronto, Canada (2013-16), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs handling Nepal and Bhutan Relations (2011-13), and Joint Secretary in charge of Multilateral Economic Relations (2010-11). His earlier diplomatic assignments include serving as Deputy Chief of Mission in Kabul, Afghanistan (2008-10), Deputy High Commissioner in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania (2005-08), Deputy Consul General in San Francisco, USA (2001-05), and Deputy Secretary (Bangladesh Affairs) in the MEA, New Delhi (1999-2001). He has also served in Indian Embassies in Nepal (1996-99), Italy (1993-96), and Peru (1991-93).

Fluent in Spanish, Italian, and Nepali, he also has a strong command of Hindi, Sanskrit, and English. Academically, he is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU), where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Technology, graduating as the Gold Medalist with a record-breaking 10.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in M.Tech. A proud native of Varanasi, one of the world's most ancient and culturally vibrant cities, he is deeply passionate about Indian culture, Sanskrit and classical literature, Hindi and Urdu poetry, spirituality, yoga, and meditation.

He is married to Mrs. Reeti Mishra, a Spanish and Italian speaker, who has been actively engaged in cultural, social, and charitable initiatives as part of diplomatic and consular spouses' groups worldwide. She is also a motivational speaker, yoga enthusiast, and an advocate for Indian handicrafts, textiles, traditional arts, and poetry. Together, they have two children and continue to uphold India’s rich heritage and values in their diplomatic journey.
