Pankaj Chaturvedi
Pankaj Chaturvedi was born on 24 August 1971 in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. His ancestral village is Tishti in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh. After receiving his early education in the villages and towns of Etawah and Kanpur, he joined UP Sainik School, Lucknow from Class VII. He passed his ISC from there in 1989 and completed his BA from Lucknow University in 1992. He did his MA in Hindi in 1994 and MPhil in 1998 from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He received his PhD from the same university in 2007.
His published works include Ek Sampurnata Ke Liye, Ek Hi Chehra, Raktachaap Aur Anya Kavitayein, Aakash Mein Ardhachandra, Kaju Ki Roti, all collections of poetry; Atmakatha Ki Sanskriti, Nirasha Mein Bhi Samarthya, Raghuvir Sahay, a monograph written for Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and Jeene Ka Udaatt Aashay, works of criticism; Yahi Tum The, a focused critical memoir on Viren Dangwal; and Pratinidhi Kavitayein: Manglesh Dabral and Pratinidhi Kavitayein: Viren Dangwal as edited volumes. In addition, his Hindi transcreations of fifty one verses of Bhartrihari have been published.
He was awarded the Bharat Bhushan Agrawal Memorial Award for poetry in 1994 and the Devi Shankar Awasthi Samman for criticism in 2003 and the Ramchandra Shukla Award of the UP Hindi Sansthan. He received the Raza Fellowship in 2019 and the Kalinga Literary Festival Book Award in 2022 for Aakash Mein Ardhachandra.
At present, he is Professor and Head of the Department of Hindi at VSSD College, Kanpur, UP 208002.
