Baabusha Kohli

Baabusha Kohli is a poet, novelist, and filmmaker from Jabalpur. Her debut poetry collection Prem Gilhari Dil Akhrot (2014) was published and awarded by Bharatiya Jnanpith. She is the author of the prose-poetry collection Baavan Chitthiyan (2018), which received the Vagishwari Award, and the novel Lau (2025), honored with the Shabd Shilpi Award. Her other works include Bhaap Ke Ghar Mein Sheeshe Ki Ladki, Tat Se Nahin… Paani Se Bandhti Hai Naav, Us Ladki Ka Naam Brahmalata Hai, the diary Mizrab, and Satya Madhumakkhi Ka Chhatta Hai.Kohli’s poetry has been translated into 13 languages including English, French, Spanish, Marathi, Bangla, and Punjabi. Her books have also appeared in Marathi and Punjabi translations, with Udaas Kudi Da Haasa receiving a Punjab Government grant for school libraries.Beyond writing, she has written and directed the short films Jantar and Uski Chitthiyan. She has received the Vishisht Pratibha Samman from MP Police and the Mahakaushal Gaurav Samman from Bank of Baroda.
