Ranjit Rae

Ranjit Rae is a former Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Vietnam, and Hungary. A career diplomat, he retired from the Indian Foreign Service in 2017 after three decades in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. As Head of the Division in the Ministry of External Affairs dealing with Nepal and Bhutan, he was associated with the Peace Process that ended a ten-year violent insurgency in Nepal in 2006. He has served in the UN Mission in Kosovo, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York, and as a member of the UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions. He is currently a Member of the Peace Advisory Board of UNITAR. His books include Kathmandu Dilemma: Resetting India-Nepal Ties (Penguin, 2021) and the edited volume Shared Bonds, Strategic Interests: India-Nepal Ties in a Turbulent World (Simon and Schuster, 2026).
