Salma

Salma is the pen name of Rajathi Salma, a Tamil poet, novelist, and activist. A leading voice in contemporary Tamil literature, she transforms the experience of confinement into bold, lyrical poetry that challenges patriarchy and social norms, especially within the Tamil Muslim community. She is the author of two poetry collections and the novel The Hour Past Midnight, long-listed for the Man Asia and DSC Prize. Recipient of the Kendriya Sahitya Akademi Award and Laldli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity, she has served as Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board. Her works have been widely translated.
