Mrityunjay Kumar Singh

Mrityunjay Kumar Singh is a poet, writer, lyricist, playwright, and Bhojpuri folk singer whose work bridges literature, music, theatre, and cultural diplomacy. A retired IPS officer of the 1987 West Bengal cadre, he served as Counsellor (Culture) at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, curating the landmark Festival of India in Indonesia (2009–10). His scripts include Shikhandini, a Kathak–Javanese dance drama, and Sagarika, an Indo-Indonesian collaboration inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s Bali poem (1927). He has also written Dice of Desire (selected for Bharat Rang Mahotsav, 2023) and Dev Sabha. As a lyricist, he has contributed to acclaimed films like Chokher Bali by Rituparna Ghosh and others. An ICCR-empanelled performer, he has sung internationally. His recent works include the Bhojpuri novel 'Ganga Ratan Bidesi'(Bharatiya Jnanpeeth) and the long narrative poem 'Draupadi' (Vani Prakashan).
